Every good meal starts with the ever-essential chef’s spoon – discover your best one here.

Whether cooking, tasting or serving, we’re all about a great chef’s spoon at Otahuna. This one shaped by hand by our Head Gardener, Steve Marcham, is made from recycled native New Zealand Rimu. With a shallow bowl, an oblong shape (perfect for getting into the corners of your pots and pans) and a rounded handle, this might just become the most useful - and best loved - tool in your kitchen.

Steve Marcham

Handcrafted wood turned into beautiful and practical pieces.

Steve Marcham is one of Otahuna’s best known and most loved characters. Since assuming the role of Head Gardener in 2007, he has been responsible for the transformation of the property’s storied gardens. Alongside his team, he has revitalised the Lodge’s historic 19th-century grounds, introduced wholly new areas rich with vision and modern-day purpose, and overseen the development of vast working gardens from which more than 125 different varieties of fruits and vegetables are harvested annually.

Steve is also an accomplished wood worker who utilises reclaimed timber to fashion designs that marry design and functionality into pieces sure to become lifelong treasures. We’re proud to showcase Steve’s works and share them with Otahuna’s friends.
